Fran's
Fran's Restaurant has its own Wikipedia entry. A "Toronto Tradition" (their words, not mine) for nearly 70 years, Fran's is a classic, 24-hour diner that serves up massive plates of diner food: burgers, fries, omelettes, waffles, soup, chili, sandwiches, and every variety of fried food. And booze.
Best of all, the College Street location is right in the heart of downtown -- just north of College Park (directly across the street, in fact) and only a block or two from several popular hotels, including the Days Inn and Delta Chelsea. I've eaten at least once at Fran's every time I've been to Toronto. It's a great place to drink coffee and read the paper on a lazy morning, and a perfect spot to talk film late into the night.
One tip: If you go for breakfast, get the home fries. You won't need to eat for the rest of the day.

If you're at either the Visa Screening room or Yonge-Dundas AMC, or staying at the Pantages or Bond Hotel, the location at the corner of Shuter & Victoria (just east of Yonge, just north of Queen) is closer, and a lot bigger.
Hey Darren, don't you owe me a breakfast?!! Hint hint.
At least one!
Thanks for the tip, Dan. It just occurred to me that I've never wandered east of Yonge that far south. Might have to do a bit of exploring this year.
Anyone else have problems with the phones? It's like clockwork every year. The damn website hasn't even updated yet and it is 10 after.
I think I ate breakfast at Fran's nearly every morning during TIFF in '06 and several mornings in '07. Good place and definitely recommendable.
Does anyone know if Frans has free wi-fi like Eggstasy (which, is my favorite breakfast haunt, being right around the corner from the Manulife)?
I don't know if Fran's has wi-fi (seems unlikely), but the Shuter & Victoria location is below a condo building I was in just the other day. There are a number of open networks ... maybe you can pick up one of them from street level. :)
Thanks, for a really nice read.
I noesis signification this authorised. Thanks for method this one connecter.
